RM162,800 Jetour T2 i-DM vs 2 Chery-group rivals: what the money buys

The T2 i-DM is the most expensive of three Chery-group plug-in hybrids with near-identical batteries, and its early buyers carry a facelift risk.

Our arithmetic

TL;DR

  • The Jetour T2 i-DM price in Malaysia is RM162,800 for an 18.4 kWh LFP battery, as Paultan.org and SoyaCincau report.

  • Our arithmetic on Paultan.org figures: RM8,848 per kWh of battery, the highest of the three Chery-group PHEVs.

  • Paultan.org reported a facelifted T2 with a stronger PHEV in China on 27 Aug 2026, less than a month before this launch.

What does the Jetour T2 i-DM cost in Malaysia?

The Jetour T2 i-DM price in Malaysia is RM162,800, and it buys the same size of battery that two cheaper cousins already sell. That is the sharpest fact in this launch. Paultan.org reports the price as nett, without road tax and insurance. The petrol T2 sells for RM156,800, so the plug adds RM6,000. When Jaecoo launched the J7 PHEV, Paultan.org reported it at RM10k more than the petrol J7 AWD. Paultan.org also counts 2,137 bookings for the T2 i-DM two days before the launch.

SoyaCincau lists one variant in one colour, Highway Grey Matte, and gives the price as not inclusive of inspection, registration, insurance and road tax.

The car also landed below its own estimate. In a preview, Paultan.org reported that the estimated price at the June order opening was RM168,888.

How does the T2 i-DM compare with its plug-in rivals?

I picked rivals with a plug and a launch price near the T2 i-DM. Each rival figure comes from its Malaysian launch report on Paultan.org, which gives different price bases. Jetour quotes nett. Jaecoo and Chery quote on-the-road without insurance (the J7 report also says "with insurance" in one later line).

The Paultan.org buyer's guide for the Tiggo 8 lists a June 2026 Chery campaign that advertises the Tiggo 8 PHEV from RM139,000. So the RM159,800 list price may not be the price a buyer pays.

What does each ringgit of battery cost?

This is our arithmetic, on the Paultan.org prices and battery sizes in the table. RM162,800 / 18.4 kWh = RM8,848 per kWh for the T2 i-DM. The same sum gives RM8,678 for the J7 PHEV and RM8,732 for the Tiggo 8 PHEV. So the T2 i-DM charges the most for the same battery. The range figures for the T2 do not agree. SoyaCincau reports 139 km of electric range on NEDC. Paultan.org quotes Jetour at "over 100 km" and says the cycle for the 1,200 km total range is not specified. Until Jetour publishes the test cycle, a cost per km of electric range for the T2 is a band, not one number.

What does the warranty cover, and what is missing?

On paper, the three PHEVs match. Paultan.org lists a seven-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty and an eight-year or 160,000 km battery warranty for each. The T2 i-DM adds an engine warranty of ten years or 1,000,000 km, plus five free services.

The gap is in the small print. The Paultan.org launch reports for the J7 and the Tiggo 8 promise a one-to-one battery exchange if battery health falls below 70% during the warranty. The Jetour launch reports we read do not state a battery health threshold. A battery warranty without a stated health floor leaves the buyer to argue the definition of a fault.

Who pays if the facelift comes here?

The early buyer pays. Paultan.org reported the facelifted T2 from China on 27 Aug 2026. Its PHEV has 782 PS and 835 Nm, a claimed 245 km of CLTC electric range, and a new driver assistance system from Huawei. Jetour Malaysia launched the current T2 i-DM less than a month later. The reports we read give no Malaysian date for the facelift.

That is a residual value question, not a quality question. Residual value is what the car is worth when you sell it. The booking holders carry that risk first.

Is the Jetour T2 i-DM price in Malaysia fair for what it adds?

The trade-off is clear. The T2 i-DM costs more than the J7 PHEV and the Tiggo 8 PHEV. For that, it adds the boxy body, more power, a 70-litre tank and a higher DC peak. It does not add battery. Buyers who want to compare plug-in running costs with petrol can use our EV vs petrol cost guide.

Catherine's take

The headline number is fine. The hidden number is our own sum of RM8,848 per kWh, the highest of three cars with near-identical batteries. Jetour priced the look, not the hardware. That is a legitimate strategy, and the 2,137 bookings Paultan.org counts say buyers accept it. But the battery warranty terms do not state a health floor, and the China facelift already exists. The early buyer pays for both gaps. If the facelift reaches Malaysia soon, the depreciation curve will show it first.
