Proton eMas passes 40,000 units in 21 months: what the volume means for eMas 5 and eMas 7 owners in Malaysia

Volume gives eMas owners a service network and a firmer used price, but the same volume came with price cuts that the earliest buyers paid for.

TL;DR

  • Proton eMas price in Malaysia starts at RM59,800 for the eMas 5 and RM96,800 for the eMas 7 after a RM7,000 rebate, Paultan.org reports.

  • A 2025 eMas 7 holds 79% of its new price on Paultan.org's trade-guide data. A 2025 BYD Atto 3 holds 65%.

  • The eMas 7 Prime is RM6k cheaper since local assembly, Paultan.org reports, and RM3,000 lower again since January, by our arithmetic.

Going by Paultan.org's price lists, an eMas 5 costs from RM59,800 and an eMas 7 from RM96,800. Those prices sit on top of 40,000 deliveries in 21 months. The question for a buyer is simple: does that volume protect the money you put into an eMas?

How fast did Proton eMas reach 40,000 units?

Paultan.org reports that eMas deliveries passed 40,000 units in 21 months, counted from the eMas 7 launch in December 2024. The 40,000th car was an eMas 7 Premium Plus.

Malay Mail reports 27,403 domestic eMas registrations from January to August this year, more than 60% of Malaysia's EV registrations, per Pro-Net. August alone gave more than 6,000. Pro-Net's total of 27,856 mixes domestic and export units and includes 5,562 eMas 7 PHEV units, so not all 40,000 cars are battery EVs.

What does the volume give an eMas owner?

Service reach. Proton says it has 46 service centres today and plans 57 by the end of this year, Paultan.org reports.

Parts. Pro-Net told Malay Mail that 98.8% of common spare parts are available across its network. That is a company claim, not an audit.

Running cost. Paultan.org puts eMas 5 servicing at RM1,278.03 over five years, against RM1,416.08 for the Perodua QV-E.

Charging. Before 2026 is out, eMas owners should see DC chargers carrying the eMas name, built with operators already in the market. Paultan.org says the number, locations and owner rates are not final.

Warranty. For the CKD eMas 7, Paultan.org lists a six-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty and an eight-year, 160,000 km battery warranty. We did not find eMas 5 warranty terms in the pages we checked.

Does the eMas 7 hold its resale value?

Paultan.org publishes trade-guide values, the figure insurers and dealers use. On that data, a 2025 eMas 7 holds 79% of its new price. A 2025 BYD Atto 3 holds 65%.

One caution: Paultan.org does not name the variant behind each figure, so treat the gap as a guide, not a quote.

Who paid for the price cuts?

The eMas 7 price has fallen twice. In January, Paultan.org reported the new CKD Prime at RM103,800, or RM99,800 after a RM4,000 rebate, and called it RM6k cheaper than the CBU car from the December 2024 launch. In September, the Prime sits at RM96,800 after a RM7,000 rebate.

Our arithmetic: from January to September alone, RM99,800 - RM96,800 = RM3,000 more off, on top of the RM6k CKD cut. The first owners carry both gaps at trade-in. The January CKD launch package included an RM5,000 Proton owner trade-in rebate, Paultan.org reported, which offsets part of it for owners who stay with the brand.

How does the eMas 5 compare with its closest rivals?

Prices, batteries and quoted ranges below are from Paultan.org's buyer's guides. Prices are on-the-road without insurance.

Note

Proton eMas 5 Prime

RM59,800

30.12 kWh

Proton eMas 5 Premium

RM72,800

40.16 kWh

Wuling Bingo Max

Four seats

Perodua QV-E (with battery)

RM77,499

52.5 kWh

370 km

After an extra RM10,000 rebate

Our arithmetic, price / quoted range: RM72,800 / 325 km = RM224 per km for the eMas 5 Premium, and RM77,499 / 370 km = RM209 per km for the QV-E. So the eMas 5 Premium is not the cheapest range per ringgit. The QV-E beats it, and the Bingo Max gives more range for the same price. The eMas 5 wins on entry price, maintenance cost and road tax (RM30 to RM60 a year against RM160 for the QV-E, per Paultan.org).

How does the eMas 7 compare with the BYD Atto 3?

Model

Battery

Range

Proton eMas 7 Prime

RM96,800

49.52 kWh

Proton eMas 7 Premium Plus

RM118,800

68.39 kWh

450 km

BYD Atto 3 Ultra

RM125,800

60.48 kWh

420 km

The eMas 7 prices include the RM7,000 rebate, per Paultan.org's 29 September story. The Atto 3 figures are from Paultan.org's buyer's guide. Our arithmetic: RM125,800 - RM118,800 = RM7,000. For that much less than the Atto 3 Ultra, the eMas 7 Premium Plus has the larger battery and the longer quoted range.

The trade-off

Volume makes the eMas a safer second-hand asset and a better-supported car. It does not make the price stable. The eMas 7 rebate rose from RM4,000 in January to RM7,000 in September. The buyer who waits for the next rebate saves money. The buyer who already owns one pays for it in residual value.

Catherine's take

Volume is a real asset here. On Paultan.org's trade-guide data, 79% for a 2025 eMas 7 against 65% for a 2025 Atto 3 is a meaningful gap. But the brand bought that volume partly with rebates, and rebates are a cost that someone carries. Today, that someone is the December 2024 buyer. Watch the rebate line, not the sales headline. If it grows again, residual value follows it down.
